In September of 1740, singer Tito Amato receives a curious invitation. The German composer Karl Johann Weber is rehearsing a new opera in great secrecy. Would Tito agree to join the cast gathering at an isolated villa? A generous fee tempts Tito into the countryside awash with the golden hues of autumn, but the bucolic mood soon turns menacing when the corpse of a stranger is found at the stroke of midnight. With the local constable away on a boar hunt, the midnight killer continues to srtike with impunity, raising terror to a fevered crescendo. Before Tito can put an end to the attacks, he must juggle a houseful of temperamental singers and confront a notorious figure from his past.
