From the Grounds Up Author: Sandra Balzo Published: March 1, 2010 by Severn House Series Name: A Maggy Thorsen Mystery Category: Sharp-edged cozy, humorous Main Character: Maggy Thorsen and ensemble cast "When one door closes, another's probably getting ready to smack you in the ass," is the adage of Brookhills real estate agent Sarah Kingston. That's why Sarah's offer to join with Maggy Thorsen in the rebuilding of Maggy's coffeehouse takes the Uncommon Grounds owner by surprise. Sure, it's true the shop, open just a year, was virtually destroyed by a snowstorm of biblical proportions. And, yes, Maggy's original partner, Caron Egan, is waffling about starting all over again. Still, Sarah has just the spot for Uncommon Grounds. A depot in "Old Brookhills," a quaint area of town that became virtually abandoned when the train stopped . . . well, stopping. A high-speed commuter train, though, promises new life to the neighborhood and Sarah was smart enough to see it coming. What Maggy and Sarah didn’t picture, though, is Sarah's irascible uncle, Kornell Kingston, dead in his -- and the commuter train's -- tracks. And that’s just the first of the “accidents.” Somebody obviously wants to stop Sarah and Maggy from re-opening Uncommon Grounds. And the partners have no intention of letting them. |
