The heroine, Lady Julia Grey, a sheltered woman of wealth and privilege, undertakes the investigation of her husband’s murder with the help of a mysterious private inquiry agent, Nicholas Brisbane. The most conventional member of an eccentric family, Lady Julia discovers as much about herself during this investigation as she does her husband’s killer.

SILENT IN THE GRAVE received starred reviews from both Publisher’s Weekly and Kirkus Reviews, and was a Booksense pick. A sixth-generation native Texan, Deanna Raybourn graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a double major in English and history and an emphasis on Shakespearean studies. She taught high school English for three years in San Antonio before leaving education to pursue a career as a novelist. Deanna makes her home in Virginia, where she lives with her husband and daughter and is hard at work on the next installment in the Lady Julia Grey series. Her novels have been nominated for an Agatha, a Daphne du Maurier, two Dilys Winn Awards, a Last Laugh, and won the 2008 RITA for Best Novel with Strong Romantic Elements.
