Welcome Note

Thanks for clicking on my name! Please check out my short stories in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine featuring 1950s P.I. Darrow Nash, as well as a one-off story in the March/April 2011 issue entitled "Icarus." Also look for my new Darrow Nash novel, "Backdrop," in bookstores everywhere once someone gets the foresight to publish it! In 2009, I was "highly commended" (meaning "runner-up") for "Backdrop" by the judging panel for the British Crime Writers Association's 2009 Debut Dagger Award. The judges stated that the novel had "a likeable PI protagonist and a solid time slip plot" and that "the 1950 Hollywood setting is sexy." Another short story of mine, "No Uncertain Terms," appears in the Jan./Feb. 2012 issue of Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine.

Author Bio

C. J. Harper is a writer trapped in a lawyer's body. His noir short stories featuring 1950s P.I. Darrow Nash have appeared in the February, 2008, the March/April, 2008, and the July, 2009 issues of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. A "one-off" short story entitled "Icarus" appeared in EQMM in the March/April 2011 issue. Another short story, "No Uncertain Terms," appears in the Jan./Feb. 2012 issue of Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine. In 2007, his unpublished novel, "The Shadow of the Dead" was shortlisted for the British Crime Writers Association Debut Dagger Award. He was shortlisted again for the 2009 Debut Dagger Award for his first Darrow Nash novel, "Backdrop," resulting in Harper being "highly commended" by the judging panel for that story. The judges stated that the novel had "a likeable PI protagonist and a solid time slip plot" and that "the 1950 Hollywood setting is sexy." His writer's group, Creme de la Crime, includes the mystery icons William Kent Krueger, Carl Brookins, Monica Ferris and Susan Runholt. He splits his time between his home in Plymouth, Minnesota, where he lives with his wife, Dana, and two children, Ellen and Bobby, and the Plymouth ice arena where he coaches his kids in hockey (yes, girls DO play hockey!).
