Accountant and amateur sleuth is concerned about her mother's out of control behavior after Mama threatens her church-lady rival, Erica. The church lady files a police report on Mama, adding to Cleo's sense of a brewing storm.

Erica is found murdered in the church parking lot, the victim of a hit-and-run driver. Mama won't account for her whereabouts at the time of the murder. Worse, there's a person-sized dent in Mama's car.

Amateur sleuth Cleopatra Jones of rural Hogan's Glen, Maryland faces an unwanted hazzard when she skulls her golf ball across the number six green and it lands in the inseam of a very dead banker. Though the victim is a longtime friend of Cleo's, his ongoing dispute with Cleo's best friend and golfing partner, Jonette, is public knowledge. When the police key in on Jonette as the prime suspect, Cleo sets out to find the real killer.
