Bloody Murder: Voices from the Margins – Bouchercon 2014

Bloody Murder: Voices from the Margins took place at Bouchercon 2014 on Saturday morning, November 15th. During the hour, the forty eight (mostly) mystery writers present – on the left hand side below – talked about (mostly) mystery authors they love, but you might not have heard of yet. The list includes everyone from debut authors to authors who should have become household names during their lives, but who are under-read, under-valued or forgotten.

Here are the recommendations from what we hope was the first Bloody Murder panel. Some of them have websites or publisher’s websites, but some you will have to track them down with the help of your favorite bookstore. We guarantee it’s worth your while.

From the MWA Board of Directors

Mystery Writers of America is aware that Bouchercon 2014 has on its schedule an event called, “Men of Mystery.” While we support the participants and organizers of this event, MWA feels that hosting this at Bouchercon sends the wrong message to fans, reviewers, and authors that writers can, and should, be divided by gender.

We are not asking for this event to be cancelled or altered. However, we offer this objection in the hopes that future Bouchercon committees work harder to be inclusive to all authors, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.
